Belize is a small country in Central America, beautifully located in the Caribbean Sea. It’s a great spot for just chilling out on the pretty beaches and just “taking it slow” – but you can also opt in for a Yacht tour out on the ocean to swim with harmless nurse sharks! ? I am kicking off the new “Top Highlights” series with my very first “longer” trip back in 2013 when I was not yet traveling full time. I did manage to get two months of (unpaid) holiday signed off and this trip pretty much laid the foundation for my decision to quit my job in 2014. Traveling through South America for 2 months gave me enough time to explore three countries: Ecuador, Peru & Bolivia. Check this post for my South America Highlights of that area!

Couchsurfing has been a huge part of my travel life. I have met countless amazing people on this platform over the years, both as a host as well as a guest. There has been some rapid Couchsurfing changes in the last weeks though, which caused a revolt in the community, potentially splitting it up between Couchsurfing and its competitors BeWelcome and Trustroots. How will we travel after corona? It is safe to say that the current ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is the most dramatic change in nearly everyone’s life with entire countries completely shutting down. At the time of writing on June 15th, Germany and the EU countries are now opening up their borders in between each other again after successfully “flattening the curve” – with no guarantee that it will remain that way. Other countries like Brazil are facing the most difficult periods in their COVID-19 pandemic with high daily death rates. It shows us that the virus is here to stay for a long time and in this post, I want to talk about how future international travel could look like as I am personally waiting for various borders to open.
