African Safari in Tanzania (Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater)

africa safari

📅 June 2012 ▶️ In my effort of catching up with old trips before working on my new 4K material, I am now presenting you my very first trip to Tanzania in East Africa – nearly 10 years ago! Unfortunately, I had to remove the music from the original video and replace it with some new, so some original sound effects have been lost sadly. Hopefully you will still like the footage from both the world famous Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater!

(Video) African Safari in the Serengeti & Zanzibar

[24/06/2012] Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro and the Serengeti pleased us with some spectacular wildlife, especially when two cheetahs came up right to our car! We also got stuck with our jeep in a remote lion territory and did a side trip to Lake Natron and the local Maasai before ending the trip on the Island of Zanzibar with amazing beaches and Kite surfing. (Video) Climbing Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa

[16/06/2012] Climbing 5,895m high Kilimanjaro in Africa is a great introduction to the seven summits, being a technically easy trek. The altitude is not to be underestimated though and you can see in this video how it affected us on the Lemosho route. We could even witness a big tent flying away into the vast African plains, providing a rather unusual sight. Read the rest of this entry »

#20_zanzibarAfter some very exciting weeks climbing Kilimanjaro and cruising through the Serengeti, we now make our way to Zanzibar – the last stop in Africa before heading home via Dubai. Just like everyone else, we are here to relax at the beautiful beaches, drink cocktails and do some Kite surfing.

Jamaica accelerates the Jeep, heading straight towards yet another water hole in front of us. The vehicle roars up as it gets stuck in the hole, leaving us stranded in one of the most isolated parts of the northern Serengeti. Our guide calmly tells us to stay in the car while he gets help. “Don’t you have a gun with you?”, I ask. “No… I have god with me…”, he says, and wanders out into the vast lion territory around us. Kilimanjaro Video

It took me a while, but now it’s finally here. YouTube banned the Video in certain countries and I had to reduce the size from 5GB to 500MB for the Vimeo upload, which resulted in some technical problems as well. But now it’s ready, so have fun 🙂

Mount Kilimanjaro (2/2)

“This night will be very cold on the summit, expect -20°C“, Nelson warns us and we fill up our camel backs with hot tea water, even though we know that this won’t help much in six hours when we hopefully get close to the summit. We check our head torches and off we go into the night, following all the other lights in front of us. King William shouts out “Pole, Pole!” (Slow, Slow!) but in reality, we actually have a reasonable speed and pass one group after the other.

“Right where you are,” our guide says, “is where the man died in the landslide.” I look at him in utter disbelieve and continue slogging through the alpine desert, 4.000 meters above the African plain. Climbing to Mt. Kilimanjaro’s snowy summit is a once in a lifetime experience for some and the start of a mountaineering career for others. I’m not sure which group I belong to just yet, but I will certainly share my experiences on the world’s highest free standing mountain.
